Construction plans for International Campus
Lelystad becoming increasingly concrete
Published: April 3, 2025
On Monday, March 31, 2025, the Municipality of Lelystad and VDVI signed a purchase and development agreement for the construction of the International Campus Lelystad. This makes the plans to accommodate approximately 2,500 labor migrants increasingly concrete. The campus will be located next to the Van der Valk Hotel in Lelystad and aims to contribute to a structural solution for the shortage of housing for labor migrants.,
Solution for housing challenges
Lelystad is facing a shortage of suitable housing for labor migrants, which leads to nuisance in residential areas and illegal room rentals. With the realization of the International Campus, this issue can be addressed. In addition, the campus offers major logistics companies in Lelystad the opportunity to house and retain staff. Alderman Dennis Grimbergen: “The International Campus contributes to a structural solution for the housing challenges and ensures a better living environment in the city.”
Facilities and layout of the campus
The International Campus Lelystad will consist of multiple buildings with a maximum of 4 floors. In addition to residential space, there will be an information center, a small supermarket, and small-scale hospitality facilities. Furthermore, there will be recreational and sports facilities, multifunctional spaces such as practice rooms for medical or paramedical functions, and a site that will be secured 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each building will have its own caretakers. The architecture of the campus will be tailored to its surroundings.
